Werebeasts and Animals

I: Mutated Animals

Through heinous experimentations of evil in a Castlevania lab or by the insidious nature of the castle's dark influence, certain mammals and sea life have mutated into human-like forms, more vicious and undaunted than they could ever be in their usual form. For some, advanced fighting skill comes naturally.

Spider Woman
.

These aggressive and unrelenting spider women show up in the catacombs of the castle. With their deadly spear-like blades, they stalk the vampire hunter using their speed, crawling along the walls and ceilings if necessary. From a distance, they'll try to spray you with their poisonous venom, but if you get too close, they'll wildly swing their blades in a two-step dash.

II: Animal Kingdom

The onslaught of evil certainly isn't relegated to the undead. Through their predatory and territorial nature, animals become a natural danger en route to the castle. Birds, lizards and the other wildlife don't have special powers, but their natural abilities are enough for a formidable attack.

.
Hellhounds
.

Hellhounds are those vicious hellspawn that are trained to guard over specific areas. If a hero enters into their vicinity, they'll begin chasing after him or her to attack with a teeth-flashing dive. Other hellhounds, specifically those who pose as statues, can temporarily immobilize heroes if their attacks connect. The strongest type of hellhound is called a Shadow Wolf, and it liquefy itself into a puddle of slime and therein mulch along the ground to pop up for a surprise attack.

.
Snake
.

Like the viper swarms, snakes always come in large groups. These snakes do all they can to throw off your lock-on feature, as your whip and other weapons will usually miss. If you don't swipe at them with your short-ranged weapons, they'll latch on to you and won't let go. This is most prevalent if you let them pile up.

III: Sea Life

There's no question that you'll sooner or later have to traverse lakes, rivers or other large pools of water; it's in these dangerous waters where you'll have to storm through the none-too-hospitable sea life. As with regular animals, they'll use their instinctive nature to protect their habitat while looking to make a warm dinner out of you.
