Mystic Items ![]()
Mystic and special weapons can best be described as the sub-weapons activated by pushing the directional pad upward and pressing the attack button. I've divided them up into six different sections: (1) Basic Items: A look at the five mystic items implicated into the Belmont-Dracula war by Leon and Sonia's doing. Below each is a table that looks at any additional power that different family members were able to add onto those weapons. (2) Special Additions: A look at single weapons that have made an appearance within the time-periods of certain heroes. (3) Sypha's Spells. (4) Maria's Weapons. (5) Sonia's Soul Powers. And (6) Haunted Castle-exclusive.

Dagger
To
say that the dagger is universally hated would be an understatement.
The dagger holds the distinction of being the
weakest of all of the sub-weapons--but even so, it's by far the quickest-moving. Due to this attribute, it's easy to throw many of them in a row to stifle most enemies before they can even react. Its other distinction: It's also, always, the most questionably-hidden weapon, always showing up when and where you don't want it. |

Holy
Water
Holy
Water (known earlier as the "firebomb," for religious
purposes) has always been a weapon of choice against vampires. When thrown onto the ground, the vial explodes and the liquid disintegrates slowly; for this reason, it's best used on grounded foes because it can engulf them slowly, therein scoring multiple hits, while rendering them motionless. Holy water has been used, also, to break through some brickwork, too. |

Boomerang
This
boomerang (the "cross" in Japan, changed, again, for matters
of religion) is the item of choice for most experienced vampire hunters. This spinning blade can strike twice--once when thrown and once on the return. It's the best weapon for fighting projectile-happy enemies, as it can counter their attacks and destroy them at the same time. |

Axe
The
axe is undeniably the most powerful of the basic sub-weapons;
its power is roughly 0.5 more than a powered-up whip in that regard. Though, it's also fairly uncontrollable in its arcing flight because of its unwieldy size. Through its arcing flight, it can be used to strike foes both above and below, which makes it the most useful against (a) bosses who like to hover overhead and (b) pesky enemies lurking below. |

Stopwatch
The
stopwatch affords the heroes powerful magic that allows them
to stop time for short period--with it all enemies in their tracks. For that kind of power, its heart consumption is usually greater than most (five hearts, standard). As the series has gone on, the stopwatch has become less and less useful, wherein later Belmonts could only use it to temporarily slow down time, instead. |

Additions |

Silver
Knife
(User:
Simon Belmont) This can
be obtained only
in Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest by
locating a mysterious figure. It has both more
range and more power than a typical dagger, but, for only a little boost, it still may not be worth the precious heart it takes to activate. |
Golden
Knife
(User:
Simon Belmont) Another
weapon only wielded by Simon in Simon's Quest, this dagger is
the most powerful of the three. When
it makes contact with an enemy, it'll strike multiple times before it disappears. Its range is also the greatest, and it's the best weapon of choice against Dracula. |
Holy
Book
(Users:
Juste, Richter and Alucard) When
activated, a magic book
will spiral around the hero, progressively outward, forming a temporary shield as its sharp pages proceed to rip at surrounding enemies. Richter's Symphony version instead whips back and forth, protecting him for a short period of time. |
Diamond
(Users:
Simon and Alucard) Simon
located the diamond during his
Simon's Quest adventure. When thrown, it rebounds around the room at opposing angles until it striking an enemy or traveling through a pit or doorway. Its smaller size in Symphony (where it's called the "rebound stone") allows it to rebound faster and strike more times. |
Mystic
Flame
(User:
Simon) This
mystic flame is very similar to holy water.
When thrown, it arcs straight downward and onto the ground, where sent upward is a slow-rising flame. Enemies that walk into the rising flame will become caught in its net and suffer multiple hits as it rises and the descends. |
Garlic
(Users:
Simon) A
classic weapon of vampire hunters, the garlic can
be used to either harm enemies or to uncover secrets in graveyard-type areas. If enemies walk near it, they'll become entranced, trapped by its aroma until they're destroyed. Though effective as a weapon, it's too precious to waste for this means. |
Laurel
(User:
Simon) In
Simon's Quest, these magical herbs can be used to render a vampire
hunter invincible for a short period. Because of
this precedent, laurels are indeed an expensive item. Though, a laurel type can be found for free in Akumajo Dracula X68000 as an energy-restoring sub-weapon, costing only ten hearts per use. |
Oak
Stake
(Users:
Simon) Though
in myth a standard vampire-hunting weapon
for vampire hunters in myth--where often they're plunged deep into a vampire's heart--these in Simon's Quest only serve to release the body parts of Dracula from the magical orbs containing them. At fifty hearts a pop, you should hope your aim is true. |
Crystal/Spear
Head
(Users:
John Morris and Eric Lecarde) In
Bloodlines, finding a
hidden spellbook will earn you this temporary sub-weapon, which replaces the one current--until you take damage, wherein it'll be lost. When used by John, a blue flame blasts forward and seeks the closest enemy, which will be damaged repeatedly by the burning flame; Eric, instead, releases green balls of flame in all directions at once for a long period. In both cases, the spell costs ten hearts. |
Aguen
(Users:
Richter and Alucard) Though
it seems that this sacred lightning can only be thrown to score one
hit, it's important to know that holding down the attack button commands
it to expel lightning bolts, its natural property, in all directions;
lightning will continue
to strike your hearts are drained or until you let go of the button. |
Bibuti
(Users:
Richter and Alucard) Bibuti
is another Holy Water-like
item: The hero will throw onto the ground deadly ashes onto that'll slowly disintegrate slowly; during this period, any enemy that passes over the ashes will become trapped in the destructive net and caused repeated damaged before they're able to escape--that's if they escape. |
Sacred
Fist
(Users:
Juste) The
Sacred Fist is the only sub-weapon that has a physical effect on the
hero. By activating this item, Juste Belmont
will stretch out his arms to release a flurry of long-range flaming punches while the force slowly moves him forward. Enemies in the path of the attack will be repeatedly damaged by its onslaught. |
Magic
Cross
(Users:
Julius Belmont) Though
the "boomerang" and "the cross"
have always been considered one in the same, it was Julius Belmont who instituted a separation and out of one created two: The namesake, the typical boomerang listed above, and this, the new magic cross. When activated, Julius hovers in the air, invincible, while a giant flaming cross forms behind him. Any enemy that makes contact with the cross will be damaged heavily, repeatedly. |
Crystal
(Users:
Leon) The
crystal is hardly an "addition. " It was one of the
original sub-weapons found by Leon back in the 11th century. When the crystal is activated, it hovers in place and then explodes several times over the area; enemies will be repeatedly damaged by the blast. Timing and an ability to telegraph your foes' motion will be key to using it effectively. Unfortunately, the crystal seems to have been lost in the proceeding centuries. |

Sypha's
Spells |
Holy
Flame
Of
the three spells exclusive to Sypha in Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse,
the holy flame is the most powerful. When the fire orb is used,
it produces forward a short yet crippling flame blast. Because of its quick execution, grounded foes will never be a problem; also, its range and power will help you to quickly defeat most bosses. |
Ice
The
ice spell can be used to freeze both enemies and bodies of water. When
the shard is activated, freezing blasts will be sent out in all directions.
After freezing any enemy, you can either shatter it to pieces or use
it as a makeshift platform; after freezing water supply,
thereby stopping its flow, you can walk on its frozen surface--also, it'll impede the progress of the fishmen that inhabit it. |
Lightning
Lightning
is best used when battling out-of-range enemies (example: those placed
on platforms above or below). When activated, three orbs
will hover about the area and with their heat-seeking capability track down the nearest enemy, striking three times, possibly. The orbs will leave the screen after a set period if no enemy has been struck. |
