High Scores

The early years of gaming were a much more simple time, when the best you could do to compare your skills to a friend's was to attain a higher score on an arcade machine or on a console game. Titles like Donkey Kong and Wrecking Crew were exemplary of that era. This of course also became a staple of Castlevania, which was unique in that as a platform-adventure, a genre known more for straightforward action, it utilized a point-based system. Future titles dropped the concept altogether and followed Simon's Quest's lead in adopting an RPG-based system in its place.

This page is cognizant of both methods of achievement. It's here where you'll find high scores for titles like Vampire Killer, Super Castlevania 4 and their ilk plus high-level acumen for titles like Symphony and Circle of the Moon. The top three scores, in either category, will be awarded gold, silver and bronze placement, with runner-ups listed below in order of rank. In the case of high-level acumen, where "Level 99" will no doubt be the norm, rank will be awarded by overall quality of stats (time spent, strength and defense, for instance); so, therein, having the most experience doesn't guarantee better placement. In either case, being the first to max out the system to its natural limit (posting a score of 9,999,999 on a seven-digit display, for example) will earn the user all-time cemented status.

Screenshot/photo evidence is required. And remember: Cheating doesn't impress anyone. (Note: Some screenshots have been resized--click on an image to view the full version.)
