Mega
Man: The Power Battle

-
Release Date: 1998
-
Genre: Fighting
-
Players: 2
Before his exploits in Marvel vs. Capcom,
Mega Man starred in his very own fighting game. Now, it's not a fighting
game per se; rather, think of it as a Mega Man game without the stages
and just with boss battles. The good part is that you can select from
3 available players—Mega
Man, Proto Man and Bass. (Yes, you can finally play as Proto Man.)
Even better, the game is 2-player simultaneous.
The object of the game is to plow through
Dr. Wily's robots and defeat him in his castle. After selecting a
character, you actually pick the set of bosses you'd like to go through
in the 8-stage battle. They include:
-
Set 1- Mega Man 1-3: Heat
Man, Ice Man, Wood Man, Crash Man, Guts Man and Cut Man;
- Set 2- Mega Man 4-6: Dust Man, Napalm Man,
Plant Man, Gyro Man, Gemini Man and Magnet Man;
- Set 3- Mega Man 7: Shade Man, Turbo Man,
Junk Man, Slash Man, Cloud Man and Freeze Man.
Defeating each robot will earn
you their weapon.
The final 2 stages are Wily's
castle. The first stage will almost always be a fight with the Rock
Monster.

Sometimes the stage will be
inhabited by the giant pumpkin that acted as a mid-boss in Shade Man's
stage in Mega Man 7. The next stage is a battle with Wily's
ships.

Ship #1

Wily
Ship #2

Wily
Ship #3

As the 3rd attack, he'll have
2 smaller ships hovering about, him teleporting back and forth between
them. Only the one holding him is vulnerable. You have 9 seconds to
defeat him before the battle ends. Either way, you win. I'm not sure
if you get a better ending for defeating him properly.
Game endings:
- For Mega Man- Mega Man watches from a nearby
mountain cliff as Wily's castle crumbles to the ground. Returning
to Dr. Light's lab, Mega Man believes Wily will never stop. Questioning
why robots harm humans, they all agree that the only way they'll ever
be peace is if enough people want there to be.
- For Proto Man- Proto Man watches from a
nearby mountain cliff as Wily's castle crumbles to the ground. After
watching the destruction, he stands atop a building, looking down.
At that point, Proto Man's allegiance was still unknown, so it is
questioned as to whose side he's really on.
- For Bass- Bass drags Wily out of the falling
castle and onto a nearby mountain cliff. Wily questions why Bass attacked
both his maker and the other robots. Bass responds that he wanted
to prove to Wily that he was better than the rest of the robot creations.
Wily reminds Bass of his defeats at the hands of Mega Man, but Bass
writes it off, stating that he underestimated Mega Man, and next
time he'll defeat him.
