| Limitations
Sonia takes directly after Christopher Belmont despite the difference in time-period. Sonia does tend to plod along, but she moves well enough and quickly while jumping. She jumps high but doesn't cover much horizontal ground, but those jumps can be controlled so that she can bob and weave through the air. Her whip can be powered-up three times to the point where it spews fireballs, and there's absolutely no regression as there was in the past Game Boy titles. Sonia can whip left and right while climbing ropes and can slide down at hyper speeds, but hit-detection is poor when dealing with enemies that come in from angles while she climbs; this will usually be her downfall. She can crouch walk as Simon could in Super Castlevania IV, but this is an almost useless addition, worth maybe one use in the zombie-filled trap room on stage one. Sonia's true strength lies in her soul powers: Five collectible sub-weapon-like essences; collected soul powers can be used at any time, affording Sonia up to five sub-powers available. Finally, once per life, Sonia can become temporarily invincible, wherein her speed, power and jumping ability increase. Click here for Sonia's full bio. |
