The

Games

The original Mega Man series continues on to this day, having already spawned 8 separate games on three different systems. The Nintendo Entertainment System was home to the first six games, introducing the little blue hero to millions of people through the power of its 8-bit system. Despite the timing, Mega Man X for the Super Nintendo was not directly a part of the same story-line; rather, the series continued on in the form of Mega Man 7 for that same system. The latest part of the series found its way to Sony's Playstation, where the series will most likely continue, unless Capcom decides to move the series back to either the Nintendo 64 or the Gamecube.

How the Game Boy games figure into the equation, however, has always been a mystery. The great debate has always been as to whether these games were part of the same series or if they existed as part of some separate parallel prevarication. Evidence has surfaced that support both sides of the coin. However, since there has been more proof against them being part of the series, they won't be covered here (check the GB Mega Man section here).

So here is the story of that little blue bomber, Mega Man.

Prologue

The year was 200X. The Earth was a relatively peaceful place, save for a few deviants, something no society is without. Technology had advanced to the point where robotics were the norm, and where many a brilliant scientist practiced the art of developing humanoid-like machines. Their dream was to create a society where robots and humans worked side-by-side, thus creating a utopia. It is in this time-period that two scientists made the first breakthrough.

Mega Man

"Success!" Dr. Thomas Light rejoiced. Scientists Dr. Light and Dr. Wily had created the first fully human-like experimental robot. This new creation embodied all the attributes that they hoped all their creations would. Due to Dr. Light's love of music, they dubbed their creation "Rock"; furthermore, they created a sister for Rock, and, not surprisingly, named her "Roll." The two were able to perform regular everyday activities, though Roll was relegated to the role of housekeeping robot. Due to their success with Rock and Roll, the two scientists decided to develop 6 more robots; these new robots would be designed to perform activities better than their human counterparts; also, they'd be able to perform tasks that would otherwise be too dangerous for humans to undertake. They created the following:

  1. Cut Man- Designed to function as lumberjack. He could cut through the hardest of timber;
  2. Guts Man- Powerful robot capable of lifting and transporting huge rocks and boulders;
  3. Ice Man- Impervious to sub-zero temperatures, he could perform activities under extreme conditions;
  4. Bomb Man- Primarily used for his explosive power—to clear land for Dr. Light's construction projects;
  5. Fire Man- Used for the melting and molding of metals, using the flame atop his head;
  6. Elec Man- Conducted electrical operations too dangerous for humans and also supervised power plants.

Having successfully created these human-like robots, the two rested easy, knowing that they were onto something truly remarkable. But something went wrong—something that took Dr. Light by surprise. All of the robots went awry; they began to perpetrate destructive acts, leading Dr. Light to realize his worst fear.

Light was shocked to learn that Dr. Wily was behind this senseless reprogramming. "Why?" Light asked. "Simple, my dear friend," Wily answered. "So I can take over the world!" Wily then disappeared, taking all of the robots with him. Light, victim of the situation, tried to piece together why Wily would do such a thing; hopeless, he scurried through his lab, looking for answers.

But it wasn't hopeless. While Roll was left untouched, Rock's capsule was tampered with. As he opened the capsule, Light was happy to see that his favorite creation remained intact. Rock somehow resisted reprogramming. Nonetheless, Wily had to be stopped. But who would be able to stop him?

Rock, feeling a strong sense of justice, volunteered to become Mega Man, vowing to fight for peace and stop Wily in the process. Dr. Light would transform Rock into something very powerful. With his newfound powers, Mega Man would be a fighting machine, able to adapt the powers of other robots. His speed and power would be increased, and he'd have arm cannons implemented into his robotic hands. With Light's creative prowess backing him up, Mega Man would be ready for battle.

Wily was smart, though; he had his robots create their own society—Monsteropolis! Aided by several hundred more Dr. Wily creations, these 6 robots would assist Wily in his mad quest to take over the world and its resources. Furthermore, he had his robots construct him a castle, where he could look over operations and continue his experiments.

Mega Man, undeterred, penetrated the six mining worlds that comprised Monsteropolis and defeated each of its robot leaders, using the weapons he acquired from them on each other. Having done that, he was able to locate Wily's castle. Mega Man then proceeded to fight his way to the heart of the castle, battling all kinds of vicious and demented robotic creations—including a Rock Monster, a bubble contraption, a Mega Man clone, and clones of the original 6 robots (a trick Wily would use again and again).

As Mega Man entered the castle's final chamber, Wily, in his new heavily-armored ship, launched an attack on the blue bomber. Using his arm cannon and the weapons he acquired from the 6 robots, Mega Man was able to destroy both forms of Wily's ship, bringing Wily to his knees. Defeated, Wily begged for mercy. Unmoved by Wily's pathetic display, Mega Man just left Wily there to ponder what had gone wrong.

As Mega Man started the long journey home, the sun setting in the foreground, many thoughts raced through his head. Although he had defeated Dr. Wily, he knew that there would be other fights. He knew that he would have to fight for everlasting peace!

Mega Man 2

Almost two years after being defeated, Dr. Wily was back. This time he had created 8 new robots to do his bidding. And while taking over the world was still his top priority, he would now aim all of his aggression at the one who ruined all of his previous plans—Mega Man! Among his new creations: Air Man, Crash Man, Metal Man, Bubble Man, Heat Man, Wood Man, Flash Man and Quick Man.

Wily had his minions create for him a new castle, one that was bigger and better than their previous efforts. They created Skull Castle, an almost impenetrable tool of destruction, where Wily would make plans to finish off the blue bomber once and for all. The 8 robots insured that no one would penetrate Wily's castle by building their own personal hideouts that would surround the complex.

It was once again time for Mega Man to take up the fight. This time Mega Man would have an edge; Dr. Light created 3 new contraptions—dubbed Item 1, Item 2 and Item 3—for Mega Man to use during his journey. Unfortunately, Dr. Wily caught wind of this and had 3 of his robots steal the instruments while Dr. Light and Mega Man were away from the lab. Mega Man would simply have to win them back.

Once again, Mega Man ventured into the robots' hideouts, defeating them in the process. Dr. Light's contraptions helped Mega Man immensely, as they helped him penetrate Skull Castle. Inside, he faced more of Wily's hideous creations, ranging from a mechanical dragon to the walls of the castle itself. After fighting 8 clones of Wily's newest robots, Mega Man gained a short victory over Wily in his reconstructed ship. Wily then fled to the catacombs of Skull Castle, Mega Man following closely behind.

The final battle was at hand. Mega Man confronted Wily, only to have Wily turn into...an alien?! The alien launched a fierce attack on Mega Man, pushing him to the limit. But Mega Man, using the weapon he attained from Bubble Man, defeated the vile alien.

Not surprisingly, it wasn't an alien at all; it was just a creation of Wily's, one that he was controlling from out of site. Defeated, Wily got to his knees and once again begged for mercy. Mega Man again spared the doctor from any physical harm.

Journeying home, Mega Man could only wonder how long he would have to fight. As the seasons changed, Mega Man pondered life itself. As he arrived at the city limits, he took off his helmet and placed it on the ground. Looking at it, contemplating its meaning, he turned and headed into town, where he knew those who missed him would be waiting.

Mega Man 3

As Dr. Light stood there, furthering his experimentations, he was shocked to see a familiar figure emerge at the lab's doorway. He backed up with fear as Dr. Wily made his way into the lab. Wily didn't attack; in fact, he consoled the good doctor, explaining to him that his sanity had indeed returned to him—that his actions were a byproduct of a mind-altering accident he was victim of during an experiment gone wrong.

With the two doctors now back in each other's good graces, they decided to further their past experimenting by creating a giant peacekeeping robot, who would exhibit both fear and respect from anyone thinking about perpetrating a devious act. They would name their creation "Gamma." But they ran into a snag; essential crystals that they needed to complete the project were located in 8 particular mining worlds. There was only one thing to do: Contact Mega Man and have him retrieve these 8 crystals.

Coincidentally, these 8 mining worlds had recently been under siege of 8 out-of-control robots—Magnet Man, Snake Man, Needle Man, Hard Man, Top Man, Gemini Man, Spark Man and Shadow Man—that seemingly came out of nowhere, so Mega Man would need some help if would hope to retrieve the crystals. Mega Man would have the help of Dr. Light's newest creation, Rush, a robotic dog capable of transforming into many different kinds of transportation for Mega Man to use during his journey.

"Copy," Mega Man said, taken back by Light's announcement that Wily had returned to help. "Hmmm," Mega Man said to himself. Anyway, having received his orders, he and Rush headed towards the mining worlds.

As he entered the 1st of 8 worlds, he was attacked by many robots that aimed to destroy him. He ran into one robot in particular—a red-helmeted, scarf-wearing robot that, after staring him down, helped Mega Man by opening up a way through a dead-end. This mysterious being disappeared soon after, not having said a word. Mega Man continued on, destroying the 8 out-of-control robots, receiving the 8 crystals. Along the way, he ran into that mysterious red-helmeted robot—now introducing himself as Proto Man—two more times, a strange whistle signaling his arrival; though, the 2nd and 3rd time, he attacked Mega Man in a strange pattern, quickly retreating the moment Mega Man picked up on his pattern. Mega Man still wasn't sure of this robot's intentions.

After completing the mission, Mega Man relayed the 8 crystals back to the lab. As he was ready to transport home, his signal was interrupted, prompting him back to 4 of the mining worlds he had just cleared. After further investigation, he ran into 8 familiar enemies—Air Man, Crash Man, Metal Man, Bubble Man, Heat Man, Wood Man, Flash Man and Quick Man—2 assigned to each of the 4 worlds. Now it was becoming all very clear to Mega Man.

He made quick work of his past enemies, and, having done so, would transport back to the lab. But, once again, his signal was interrupted, sending him to a section of land where he was attacked by a new enemy—Break Man! Amazingly, Break Man attacked just like Proto Man. With that in mind, Mega Man knew just how to defeat this new foe. Proto Man's intentions were then apparent to Mega Man; Proto Man was training him for this fight. So with Break Man out of the way, Mega Man finally returned to the lab.

He returned to find Dr. Light in a frenzied panic. As he suspected, Wily was behind the whole thing; after receiving the crystals, he revealed his evil intentions, running off with Gamma. The return of 8 past foes, as well as the attack of Break Man, was just a stalling tactic. With Rush at his side, Mega Man knew where he'd have to go—Skull Castle!

Skull castle had been rebuilt, beckoning Mega Man to enter. He knew the stakes; inside, he'd face all kinds of crazy contraptions. Undaunted, he made his way inside. Among the challenges he faced this time: The returning Rock Monster, more Mega Man clones, clones of Wily's newest Robot Masters, and Wily's new needle-tipped, stilt-like ship. Using the weapons attained from the mining worlds, he turned them all into scrap metal. Though, one more challenge remained—Gamma!

The path led to a final room, one in which housed Gamma, the largest robot Mega Man had ever seen. As he entered the room, it came to life, Wily firmly in control of this huge beast. Mega Man targeted the head—where Wily was located—avoiding the huge limbs of Gamma. After a nonstop assault of pellets and search snakes, Gamma, and more importantly Dr. Wily, was defeated.

Help me, mommy!

As was the norm, Wily begged for mercy. Before Mega Man could react, the damaged Gamma began to fall to pieces, bringing the ceiling down with him. Both Wily and Mega Man were caught under the debris. A shaded figure came to Mega Man's rescue. "Where's Dr. Wily?" he asked himself, as the castle came crumbling down. "Oh no, too late!"

Mega Man awakened, surprised to find himself back in Dr. Light's lab. Light informed Mega Man that Gamma had been destroyed, furthermore wondering how Mega Man got back to the lab while unconscious. As Mega Man left the lab, he wondered the same thing. As he walked along the shore, he could feel that it was indeed Proto Man that came to his rescue. Why he did it, Mega Man was not sure. Only the future would hold the answer, as it would later be revealed to him by Dr. Light that Proto Man was his brother.

Mega Man 4

Almost a year later, a mysterious message arrived at the lab of Dr. Light. It read:

"Good evening, Dr. Light. Allow me to introduce myself—I am Dr. Cossack. You may not have heard of me, but soon the world will know my name.

Over the years, you have been hailed as the greatest robot designer in the world, while my robotic creations have been totally ignored. I cannot allow this to continue. The world must be made aware of my genius!

From my Siberian citadel, I've sent eight of my most powerful robots to destroy that titanium troublemaker, Mega Man. Once they have obliterated him, I will place his broken body on display for the entire world to see. Only then will I be allowed to take my place as the greatest robot designer of all time!"

It was signed by someone called "Dr. Cossack."

It appeared that Mega Man would have no choice but to fight. Armed with his new, more powerful Mega Buster, he would confront the 8 new terrors on their home turf. He wouldn't be alone, however, as Rush was right by his side. Dr. Light even created a new friend for Mega Man, Flip Top (aka Eddie), who would pop in from time to time with a power-up for the blue bomber.

His experience ever-growing, Mega Man defeated the 8 robots and acquired their powers. Having done so, he was beckoned by Dr. Cossack's huge citadel. Inside, as Mega Man came to expect, he faced tons of robotic enemies and bigger, badder bosses. He faced the usual fare, overcoming them all; he was also forced to defeat clones of Cossack's 8 Robot Masters before proceeding to a confrontation with the doctor himself.

Cossack attacked Mega Man with a ship of his own construction. As the two attacked each other fiercely, Proto Man transported in, a woman in his arms. The young woman begged Mega Man not to hurt her father anymore; she explained that she was kidnapped, her father forced to fight Mega Man, lest harm would have become of her. Cossack ceased his attack, crying out, "Kalinka!" Mega Man watched from afar, not shocked to see Dr. Wily enter the picture. Said Wily: "You betrayed me, Proto Man," furthermore threatening to crush Mega Man. As both Wily and Proto Man fled from the scene, Mega Man wondered about his brother's allegiance.

However, he now knew of Wily's plot. Wily kidnapped Cossack's daughter and forced him to play the role of decoy. Cossack apologized for the whole mess, but Mega Man knew that he wasn't to blame. Mega Man then helped Cossack and his daughter outside. It wasn't hard to figure out where Wily fled to—the again newly constructed Skull Castle.

Mega Man once again penetrated Wily's castle, facing even more vile creations. Mega Man plowed through the evil bosses, including clones of the 8 aforementioned robots. The battle with Wily would be different this time, for Wily had learned the art of teleportation. Mega Man battled against Wily's teleporting ship; taken to the brink, Mega Man, with a little help of the Pharaoh shot, was able to overcome Wily once again.

Wily begged, but Mega Man wouldn't be so kind this time. But, alas, before Mega Man could react, Wily made his escape through a trap door. With the castle crumbling, Mega Man had no time to give chase.

As Mega Man headed home, hitching a ride on top of a train, he knew he'd see Wily again. And he knew that, as always, he'd be ready for such a threat.

Mega Man 5

The spaceport and City Hall had been completely destroyed. For reasons unknown, Proto Man had gone berserk, destroying everything in sight; Proto Man went as far as to kidnap Dr. Light. As Mega Man received the distress call from Dr. Cossack, he couldn't believe that his brother was responsible for the senseless destruction of the city's power grid. Cossack warned Mega Man of the danger Proto Man represented, consoling him with the fact that he and Dr. Light were creating a new weapon that might give him an edge in his latest battle.

Of course, the creation Cossack spoke of was Beat, a new attack robot that would hover above and protect Mega Man from incoming foes and their attacks. Of course, the pieces needed to finish construction of Beat were hidden throughout the city, Mega Man having to find them. "No problem," Mega Man said to himself, already having the services of Rush and Flip Top. "I'll find them."

But it wouldn't be that easy, for Proto Man had created 8 dark robots to help him conquer the city and destroy his brother, Mega Man. He created Charge Man, Napalm Man, Gyro Man, Stone Man, Crystal Man, Wave Man, Star Man and Gravity Man—all of which scoured through the city, building their own hideouts.

It wouldn't be enough, as Mega Man, his power-stealing ability ever-present, confronted and destroyed the 8 robots, collecting the Beat plates in the process. Mega Man followed the path of destruction, leading him to the source of the problem: Proto Castle, where his brother awaited his arrival.

Mega Man fought through yet another castle, battling bosses that resembled attack druids. As he entered the heart of the castle, Proto Man stood there coolly, his garb blowing in the wind, waiting for his brother to make a move. As Mega Man was about to attack, a familiar-sounding whistle could be heard, signaling the arrival of a familiar face. It was...Proto Man?! It then made sense to Mega Man, for one of these two was an impostor. The real Proto Man proved his innocence by blasting away at the impostor, Dark Man, who was using the guise of Proto Man to mask his own evil plot.

With the truth revealed, the real Proto Man beamed out, leaving Mega Man and Dark Man to settle the issue 1-on-1. Though Dark Man was powerful, he, too, fell at the hands of Mega Man. Mega Man then looked to the sky to see yet another familiar face—Dr. Wily!

Wily was behind it all—again. His plan was to frame Proto Man, leading to a brother-versus-brother war that would surely destroy both. Having failed, Wily, frustrated, threw a fit. Furthermore, he had Dr. Light held captive, holding him deep inside his yet again reconstructed Skull Castle. Daring Mega Man to give chase, Wily fled.

Mega Man arrived at Skull Castle, fearing for the life of Dr. Light. Battling through multiple levels of the castle, he overcame the evil boss robots and the clones of the 8 robots previously thought to be made by Proto Man. Wily's chamber lay ahead.

As Mega Man entered the chamber, he could see Dr. Light suspended in a cage above. Wily had a new ship, too, and he also reconstructed his other teleporting ship, making it stronger than it was in the last outing. Wouldn't you know it, Mega Man defeated both versions, once again bringing Wily to his knees. Having released Light from the cage, they surely had Wily where he wanted him this time.

Fate intervened again, and as Wily's ship exploded, the castle started to collapse, a large section of the ceiling falling down right over Mega Man. Wily and Light ran about in panic as Mega Man, using all his strength, held the ceiling up. But he couldn't hold it forever. Seizing the opportunity, as Mega Man was occupied, Wily quickly escaped. That old familiar whistle sounded again, signaling that help was on the way. The ceiling was mysteriously pulled up, allowing Mega Man and Light to escape from the rubble.

As Light and Mega Man stood on a nearby cliff, overlooking the fallen Skull Castle, they knew in their hearts that it was Proto Man that saved them. As Proto Man looked on from above, a smile becoming of him, he quickly slipped out of site. He knew he'd see his brother again.

Mega Man 6

It was time for the Annual Robot Tournament. Sponsored by the mysterious Mr. X, designers from around the world brought their greatest creations in an effort to earn them the title "The Most Powerful Robot in the World."

As the robots entered the arena, ready to show what they could do, the lights dimmed, prompting the entrance of Mr. X. He had this to say:

"Ladies and Gentleman,

I wish to thank you all for coming to see the final event of my 1st Annual Robot Tournament. As you know, I have kept the final event of the tournament a secret. This event will test the strength, skill and intelligence of each of these fine robots. In fact, it will also test the strength and skill of each one of you. That may seem strange, but I'm sure you will understand when I explain that the final test for these robots is to help me conquer the world!"

He continued:

"Please excuse me and my robots as we teleport out of here, but we have lots of work to do. But don't worry, you'll see me again soon. Real soon!"

"Why, Mr. X?!" Mega Man asked. "Time to tell you the truth," he responded. "I've been manipulating that fool Dr. Wily from day one. But now I no longer need him!"

Mr. X took 8 robots in particular—Blizzard Man, Wind Man, Knight Man, Plant Man, Centaur Man, Flame Man, Tomahawk Man and Yamato Man—reprogramming them to do his bidding. With these powerful robots, Mr. X's dream of taking over the world seemed very realistic.

The world had hope, as Mega Man was on the case. Knowing Mega Man would need an edge, Dr. Light and Dr. Cossack upgraded Rush to a point where he transform into armor for Mega Man, allowing him to either power up his punching ability or fly high with jet power. Beat and Flip Top would be with him, too.

With his robot pals at his side, Mega Man hunted down and defeated each of the 8 robots—even Proto man lent a helping hand. The readings showed that Mr. X was hiding deep within his own X Castle. Mega Man knew what he had to do.

Entering the castle, he wasn't surprised to find other reprogrammed Tournament robots, them bigger and stronger than the rest. Even the most powerful robots in the world weren't a match for his Mega buster, though. Locating Mr. X, the mysterious billionaire attacked Mega Man with his deadly ship. After a short duel, Mega Man brought Mr. X down.

Mr. X removed his disguise to reveal that it was indeed Dr. Wily. Mega Man wasn't the least bit surprised. Wily's plan to use the tournament to corner the market on evil robots was foiled. Wily fled quickly, Mega Man following close behind.

The stakes were the same as always. Skull Castle stood taller than ever this time. More super-powered robotic bosses awaited inside, but, as usual, they were just fodder for the inevitable—a formality. After defeating the usual round of 8 clones, the way was open to Wily's final chamber.

Wily attacked in yet another new ship, another upgrading, teleporting ship as backup. Wily declared that this would be the final confrontation. In their fiercest battle yet, Mega Man mercifully brought the doctor to his knees once again. Wily got up quickly though, fleeing, Mega Man giving chase. It was useless, though, as Wily could not outrun the blue bomber, surrendering once and for all.

The next day, the world rejoiced as the headlines read "Wily finally captured." Now imprisoned, Wily would no longer pose a threat; it seemed the world would finally be at peace. Or would it?

Mega Man 7

The world rejoiced; it appeared that Dr. Wily had been stopped for good. Everyone watched on as the police led Wily into prison, his head hanging down. Mega Man looked on, too, relieved that his greatest nemesis was finally out of the picture.

But Dr. Wily was ready for anything; he anticipated that one day he'd be captured; he had a plan. After 6 months without contact, his laboratory sprung to life, monitors, lights and control panels booting up. Emerging from a secret passage, 4 capsules opened up to reveal 4 robots—Burst Man, Cloud Man, Junk Man and Freeze Man. They began a rampage in search of their master, and nothing would get in their way.

The robots launched a fierce attack on the city, bringing everyone to realize their worst fears. The citizens couldn't understand why this was happened; after all, Wily was captured, wasn't he? Among those in line of their rampage: Dr. Light and Rush. Light informed Mega Man that Wily was using his robots to cover up his escape. As Wily escaped from prison in his ship, Light urged Mega Man to give chase.

Of course, Rush, acting as a suit of armor once again, and Beat would be at his side; Auto, a new robotic friend and owner of Eddie's Cybernetic support shop, would aid Mega Man by giving him power-ups in exchange for bolts (necessary robotic components used in the production of power-ups). Fully equipped, Mega Man was ready to take down this newest batch of robots.

Moving forward, Mega Man ran into a robot and his mechanic dog, Treble, both attacking him hesitantly. This robot, Bass, learning of Mega Man's power, revealed that he, too, was after Wily. The two agreed to be a team.

Mega Man had no problem in taking down the 4 robots, but they stalled him enough to give their master enough time to hatch plan B. Heading back to Light's lab, Mega Man learned that Wily was attacking the Robot Museum.

He arrived too late—Wily had cleaned the place out, freeing Guts Man and other vile creations from their glass bubbles. To secure his escape, he deployed a clown-like robot to stall Mega Man yet again. It worked.

The 4 robots that helped Wily escape from prison weren't alone; there were 4 more hidden in Wily's lab—Shade Man, Turbo Man, Spring Man and Slash Man. They now stood in Mega Man's way. Mega Man wasn't afraid; he had his robot friends, help from Proto Man, and an ally in Bass. After defeating three of them, Mega Man ran into a Bass on Shade Man's world. Bass was in bad shape; he asked Mega Man not to worry—to go on—but Mega Man helped by allowing him access to Light's lab, where Dr. Light would repair him. Having done that, Shade Man was soon laid to rest.

Returning to the lab, Mega Man found Dr. Light hurt and the place in shambles. "What happened?!" Mega Man asked. Light explained that Bass, upon being repaired, went berserk and stole certain upgrades made specifically for Rush. Wily then appeared on the lab's monitor, revealing that he indeed created Bass; he knew Mega Man would be naive enough to trust Bass and allow him access into the lab. Mega Man, now furious, knew where he had to go.

Mega Man once again penetrated Skull Castle. Not far in, he ran into Bass, who was more than willing to destroy Mega Man. Mega Man had other plans, as he forced bass to retreat. Deeper inside, Bass and Treble, using the upgrades meant for Rush, combined their powers to launch an assault on Mega Man. Mega Man, using his own Rush powers, countered their every move, once again defeating the pair. "Why can't I destroy him?" Bass asked, steaming from the defeat.

In the castle's final section, clones of the 8 robots were all that stood between Mega Man and Wily. By the time Mega Man had made scrap metal of his creations, Wily was launching an attack in a giant skeleton walker. Upon destruction of that machine, Wily tried a secondary attack, using his newly powered teleport ship. Their fiercest battle yet, Mega Man edged out the doctor on pure will.

Wily, defeated once again, begged for mercy; surrendering, he promised to go quietly. But Mega Man had had enough; he powered up his Mega-buster, and, insisting that he should have done it long ago, prepared to fire at Wily. Wily balked, in good confidence that a robot could not harm a human. But Mega Man explained that he was more than just a robot. "Die!" he yelled, as he was about to blast. But right before he could fire, the ceiling collapsed, a huge chunk landing on Wily.

With Mega Man knocked back, Bass reappeared, saving his master from certain death. "He who hesitates is lost," Bass said, as he and Treble brought Dr. Wily to safety. There was no time for conversation, though, as the castle would soon fall.

An angered Mega Man marched home, the flames of the exploding Skull Castle blazing in the foreground. Arriving home, he knew there'd be another fight.

Mega Man 8

In the outer breeches of space, two powerful robotic entities—one good, represented by a blue flame, the over evil, represented by a purple flame—did battle. The 2 fought each other relentlessly, regrouping after each blow, crashing into each other again and again. In a powerful rage, both gathered all their strength and made one last stride towards finishing off the other. The impact was so great, both were nearly destroyed, sent hurling deep into space. Both of them, damaged severely, headed for a crash course with Earth, causing a huge disturbance upon entering the atmosphere and crashing to the ground.

Dr. Light raced to his controls to react to the sudden alarms. He scanned the area to find clues as to what caused the disturbance. His computer located the area of the disturbance. "Hmmmm," Light said to himself. He knew he had to contact Mega Man.

As Mega Man battled with Bass on the streets of the city, close to the area of the disturbance, he received the call. "Mega Man, you must investigate it immediately," Light, happy to see that Mega Man was already in the area, said. Mega Man believed that the comet crashing to Earth was not an accident, since he detected a high concentration of metal alloy. "I bet Dr. Wily is behind this," he said to Dr. Light. Agreeing with that sentiment, Light informed Mega Man that the comet had crashed onto a desert island. Leaving Bass behind, Mega Man headed towards the destination. "Coward," Bass said, steamed.

Mega Man transported to the island, running into a giant robotic octopus, obviously there to stall him. Moving forward, there was Dr. Wily, hovering above the exact spot of the comet's impact. Out of the hole, Wily pulled out what appeared to be a meteor. Wily noted that this find would finally help him take over the world! Wily then sped off. Mega Man looked into the hole and saw something else—a damaged robot. "I have to help him," Mega Man insisted. Relaying his position to Dr. Light, Light would come pick up the damaged robot while Mega Man would take out Wily's newest robotic creations.

The usual group of friends would be lending a hand, including Rush, Beat, Flip Top, Auto and Proto Man. Mega Man came across the first of 4 creations—Tengu Man, Clown Man, Grenade Man and Frost Man—defeating them all, each leaving behind a purple spherical ball of energy. Mega Man returned to Light's lab, bringing the purple spheres with him.

Upon returning, Dr. Light had finished repairing the robot Mega Man had found on the desert island. Seeing the purple spheres, Dr. Light confirmed that they were an energy source, but they were not of the planet Earth. Light implored Mega Man to recover all the energy immediately. As they left the room, the robot came to its senses; standing upright, it saw the purple spheres, saying to himself, "He still lives!" Crushing the spheres, it abruptly made its exit through the ceiling of Light's lab. Light and Mega Man returned to see what just happened; Light urged Mega Man to go after him.

Mega Man gave chase, following the robot to storage facility. As the 2 came face to face, the robot began attacking. Mega Man handled him pretty easily, the robot impressed. "I can see there's a strong sense of justice in you," the robot said to Mega Man. Proto Man beamed in, sensing that his brother was in trouble. As Mega Man and Proto Man exchanged pleasantries, the robot made his escape. Proto Man informed Mega Man that the robot might be a product of Wily, and that Wily was just ahead in his newly named Wily Tower.

Following the robot on his Rush jet, Mega Man was attacked by one of Wily's huge drones. Grabbing Mega Man in its huge hand, it began to squeeze the life out of him. Wily watched on, laughing, finally sensing victory. As the drone sent thousands of volts through Mega Man, the blue bomber was nearing his last breath. Just then, the strange robot, forming into a bolt of pure energy, cut through the drone's arm, freeing Mega Man. As Mega Man checked on the fallen rush, the robot, introducing himself as Duo, revealed his intentions to Mega Man.

Duo explained that he was born for the sole purpose of eliminating all the evil energy from the universe. Noticing that Wily's drone left behind a purple sphere, one which could only come from his ultimate foe, Duo explained that the evil energy could multiply, becoming of all life within days, and it could only be controlled by someone who's purely evil. Sensing that the original source of the evil was located in Wily's Tower, Duo tried blasting his way in, but the castle's defense shield prevented it. Duo had a plan: He'd eliminate the rest of the evil energy while Mega Man destroyed the source of the shield's generator.

Mega Man ran into another set of Wily's robots, them controlling the shields. They were the following: Aqua Man, Search Man, Sword Man and Astro Man. With his friends' help, he defeated the rest of the evil robots, gaining entry into Wily Tower.

Inside, Mega Man faced the usual amount of danger, defeating robot evils of all kind, including Bass. 8 capsules signified that Wily was near. After finishing off the usual 8 clones, the way to Wily was open.

The moment Mega Man entered Wily's chamber, Wily, using his new ship, it powered by the meteor he found, blasted Mega Man with a strange power—a power that trapped Mega Man in a ball of energy. Wily finally had his foe where he wanted him, reading to hit a switch that would finish Mega Man off once and for all. As he hit the button, Duo smashed his way into the chamber, freeing Mega Man and blocking the laser. Proto Man then beamed in, as well, helping the fallen Duo to safety.

Wily, now enraged, tried to destroy Mega Man himself with his new ship. The 2 battled fiercely, as always, the outcome the same as it had been many times before—Mega Man had triumphed, bringing Wily to his knees. Wily gave the usual speech, surrendering and promising to never do it again.

All of a sudden, a powerful purple flame struck Mega Man, crippling him every second it surrounded him. Wily, too, was shocked at these happenings, using the time to escape yet again.

Duo found Mega Man broken and beaten. "This is not good," Duo said. "He will die soon." Putting his hand on Mega Man, sensing how long Mega Man had fought for peace, Duo erupted with a scream that could be heard across the galaxy; he used to his power to save Mega Man. Mega Man was alive, but he was affected by the evil energy; there was a chance it could overcome him, turning him into what he had battled against for years. "He's going to be OK," Duo reassured.

Proto man then arrived, worried for his brother's health. Before Mega Man could regain consciousness, Duo asked a favor of Proto Man. Mega Man awakened to the soft voice of Roll, Dr. Light and others with her. Mega Man was happy to see Proto Man and the rest of his friends. "Mega Man, I have a message to give to you from Duo," Proto Man said, the attentive Mega Man looking on. "He said 'Thank you.' "

"Me, too, " Mega Man said as he looked to the sky. "Thank you, Duo."
