Sadly, no; I am pretty sure that the guy who won the tournament got so much money from all the people who signed up. There was an entry fee for each tournament...most of it went to the house, but the winner got a percentage of it. As to how much money ended up being won, I'm unsure since I had to leave early.

I have mixed feelings about ST:HD; it really looks good (aside from that picture of the Las Vegas level I seen), and I'm really glad that they're just making new sprites and not changing the frame number for the moves and what not. However, the fact that they're not changing anything is why I'm mixed about it. Since they're not altering the game any, Akuma will still be unlockable and he will still be the raping beast that he has always been in ST (oh how I hate you Akuma), and knowing the majority of the population on Xbox Live (not sure about the PS3 community) he will most likely be abused. I'm sure there will be a lot of players who do stick with the tournament legal characters though; if I had broadband and Xbox Live, I'd be all over this when it came out.

Excerpt taken from Play Magazine (Volume Six, Issue Eleven):

(Small article has the logos of The King of Fighters XII, KOFMI: Regulation "A", and Samurai Spirits Sen to the right of it)
Quote:
...KOFMI: Regulation "A" 2 aside, which is just another arcade update to the tepidly-received 2-D version of the KOF series, these games represent the first all-new entries in their respective series in ten years. We're talking no recycled sprites. No recycled moves. All new. For the lifelong fighting game enthusiast, it's almost too much to bear. Series producer Falcoon promises that KOF XII will be hand-drawn from scratch in high resolution, and Samurai Spirits Sen is a grounds-up reboot of the series in full 3-D, running on Taito's Type-X line of high-end, PC-based arcade hardware. We haven't seen a single frame of footage, but we're hyped. And you should be too.

I must say that with The King of Fighters XII and Samurai Spirits Sen coming up (though I'm more interested in the former) and the recent announcement of Street Fighter IV, I feel this up coming year or two may be the year to breath a little life back into the fighting game community Very Happy . To say the least, I'm really looking forward to these up coming titles and figured I'd share the info.

Indeed, this is AWESOME news!

So fellas, I've been playing the Hokuto no Ken fighter lately. (Copies and paste thoughts from my 1up blog)

=====================================================

This game is my favorite fighting game. It's developed by Arc System Works, the same people who did the Guilty Gear series. This fighter is based on the classic manga & anime series Hokuto no Ken aka Fist of the North Star in the states. HnK in comparision doesn't compare to Guilty Gear X2 but I think it's a decent fighter overall.

Pros
-The stages and characters are true to the manga & anime counterparts
-Bright colorful graphics
-YOU WA SHOCK! intro
-Gameplay is based on GGX2's engine
-Seven Star Death System + Fatal KO's is a cool gameplay feature

Cons
-Too few characters (10 characters plus 1 secret who is only just the boss version of Raoh)
-Nobody has endings in Arcade Mode
-Despite the sprites being Hi-Res, the animation is very limited and it shows in the character intros
-Not many extras (Vs., Survival, Training, History Mode. A Bonus DVD is included but I can't play it)
-History Mode is difficult because you are not told the requirements of meeting the criteria of unlocking the Historic Moments. Basically, you need to do certain moves or let the AI do certain moves but you will pull your hair trying to do every move just to unlock that one picture
-Strict input on the special moves which kills my thumb
-Needs more BGM + sound effects from the anime besides Kenshiro's ATATATA screams and the Fatal KO tune.
-The Fatal KO's are not gory at all! They only end the round instead of the entire match.

THE TIME OF RETRIBUTION...DECIDE THE DESTINY!

Everybody who read this thread, ignore what I said about GG:Accent Core being a rumor. Yeah, I was wrong. Confused

http://www.siliconera.com/2007/10/17/taking-a-stab-at-motion-controls-in-guilty-gear-xx-accent-core-for-wii/#more-7712

To sum up: AC Wii's controls are WORSE than CvS2 EO!

-deep breath-

I think Street Fighter IV is retarded on every level.
Gen should have never made his comeback in such a disgusting mess of horrible music and deformed artwork.

Now if you excuse me. I have to go before THE WORLD comes to punish me.

I have to agree. Street Fighter IV was one of the most disappointing games I've ever played; and has honestly left me not wanting to play Capcom fighters, period, for the last month (I've been playing SNK only).

As mentioned, the artwork is ugly (the fact that they include the Street Fighter IV artwork as well as the horrible anime intro crap makes the clashing art styles even more of a bother), the music sucks, and the gameplay is horrible. To sum the gameplay up, it feels like your characters are chest deep in quick sand on the moon. If you have played the game, you'll probably understand that statement. Combos are also insanely frustrating since almost everything is a link requiring you to input your attack in 1 frame (1/60th of a second) which is retarded.

Capcom set out to try and make the most epic fighting game ever and failed miserably. The new characters are stupid, the graphics make the returning characters look stupid, the facial expressions are stupid, and everything comes off as some lame game trying to appeal to kids. I'm not trying to say that fighting games should be serious all the time; having a joke character or two is okay, but Capcom made a joke out of everyone it seems. Maybe I'm spoiled with Yashiro's throat rip in KoF '97, but its a game about a fighting tournament and people beating the hell out of each other; not some Saturday morning cartoon.

I know, I'm a little late here, but I have to chime in about SF4 as well. It wasn't nearly as bad as a SF EX, but I was fairly annoyed. The one thing that destroyed the game for me was Seth. His design was lame and his moves are boring (rehashed moves from other characters and a lame super where he sucks you into his yin yang ball and shoots you against the screen). The new characters are extremely lame, I would have been happier to have seen some SF3 characters in there.

I did, however, like SSF2THDR for the most part. I was a little disappointed in the music, but the game was great overall.

After about 11 years, Street Fighter Alpha 3 is still the bar to me and Capcom refuses to even try to jump over the damn thing.

I've been playing Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1 lately. I used to say the Mark of the Wolves was my favorite game in the series, but I have decided to change that to Fatal Fury 3. I forgot how much I liked that game.

Has anyone picked up BlazBlue? I was not a big fan of Guilty Gear but I decided to give this game a try. I really enjoy it so far. It feels much more welcoming than Guilty gear, especially with a more "steamlined" fighting system. I also enjoy how the story mode was put together. They do have some twists that I never saw coming. This game really shines on a HD screen, especially the gorgeous backgrounds. Overall its a solid fun fighting game. I definately recommend it.

..I ..I what?

Are they purposely trying to make a movie WORSE than Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-li?

Like seriously, the plot sounds something from failed Mortal Kombat III flick. Terry as a CIA agent, Kyo as a superhero, Mai without her lustful figure, and IORI AS A HOCKEY PLAYER??? Its like they want SNK fans to perish. So far it doesn't seem my fav character, Kim Kap Hwan is in it. Thank god. He must have avoided it.. FOR JUSTICE.

So KoF13 was announced earlier today. Not much has really been said about it other than SNKPlaymore confirming that it is in the works. An event is scheduled for the end of March (the 23rd I believe) where they will be showing it.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. Granted KoF12 was met by a lot of hate, I generally enjoyed it. 12 didn't have much to do as far as extras go, and some of the characters felt as though they weren't fully completed, I still thought it had the basis for a strong fighting system. Hopefully 13 will add a fair amount of characters, and expand on the subsystems introduced in 12.

I don't own KOF XII, but I liked it from what I played at a friend's house. I'm not sure if it would be worth my $60 due to it's lack of stages and extras, but it does serve as a nice platform for future titles. Let's just hope they do add extras to it.

I'm taking a break from games this year due to financial reasons and other responsibilities I've been neglecting. I'm sure KOF XIII won't be out until 2011 anyway.

It's kinda hurting really. I haven't gotten to play Tekken 6 or Tatsunoko vs Capcom. I also find myself wanting Super Street Fighter 4; mostly because Guy, Cody and Dudley will be in there. Street Fighter 4 was pretty mediocre, but at least they're trying to draw interest in the genre instead of ignoring it like they were.

Oh well, it'll all be cheaper a year from now.

Glad to see someone else who enjoyed it; the internet seems like its cool to hate on the game. It wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it.

Anyway, its confirmed that SNKPlaymore are going to reveal KoFXIII on March 25th...the same day as Iori's birthday.

I somewhat enjoyed KoF XII but it really needed a boss. Personally I don't think it should have come out at the average store price.

I really hope that SNK Playmore has now become adjusted to the next-generation consoles and that KoF XIII will be all we had hoped for, finishing the current series' trilogy.

I am very anxious to see what happens with Ron and the Hizoku.

A boss definitely would have been nice. They're a part of the fighting game experience. Especially in the KOF series, being the home of some of the best.

Also, have either of you played Blazblue? I haven't gotten to yet.

I have BlazBlue. I haven't played alot of it, but only because I'm mostly a nostalgia-based gamer. In truth the game is very well put together and is very enjoyable to play. I don't think there is anything wrong with it but I haven't found a character that I really enjoy playing as, although there is a huge variety.

It has a story mode and the rest that Guilty Gear had. There is alot to accomplish. I'd suggest it to any typical fighting game fan.

If you enjoy Guilty Gear you'll enjoy BlazBlue. It has a lot to do and the characters are diverse, I just couldn't really get attached to a character based on their personality. The story mode is long if you try for 100% but I still have no idea what was going on in the story mode.

Its fun to play, but the characters are a bit too generic for my tastes.
