:::whips the last drip onto "Outhouse" Ron Bass:::

In college, we knew a guy who absolutely swore, in total seriousness, that he had inside knowledge about the WWF's future plans. And because of his direct connections, he had learned in advance that "Outlaw" Ron Bass was going to be given the heavyweight championship by beating Randy Savage.

Our extreme incredulity only spurred him on to greater and greater heights of conviction. That match must have been on a "Tuesday in Texas" PPV or a house show in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania, because we missed that title change.

Nevertheless, I bid farewell to the nondescript Ron Bass, forever a TRUE champion, in at least one pathological goofball's eyes.

I kind of have to back the guy up. I distinctly remember reading in one of the Apter mags that Bass won a tournament in Rio De Janeiro to receive a title match the same night against Savage. He won handily, but because a ring rope had broken during the match, Vince vowed that it would never air or be mentioned on television. Eventually it was decided that there was more money to be made in a Ron Bass/Brutus Beefcake feud and that's the direction they decided to go. Talk about your missed opportunities.
